NSW Spatial Council
In March 2008 NSW Cabinet endorsed the strategies, goals and governance arrangements of the Common Spatial Information Initiative (CS2i) developed by the Board of Surveying and Spatial Information.
The proposed governance arrangements included the establishment of a peak council, the NSW Spatial Council (NSWSC) to coordinate policy and strategic direction of spatial information in NSW through the CS2i endorsed framework.
The NSWSC will provide a coordinated approach to spatial information policy and management, as well as facilitating opportunities for a greater strategic focus on spatial information development including greater partnership building, collaboration, cooperation and education.
The NSWSC will achieve the implementation of CS2i by:
- Initiating and developing policy for the NSW spatial information industry
- Developing strategies for financing, maintaining and developing spatial information and resources
- Driving the application of spatial information and resources to assist delivery of the NSW State Plan
- Promoting the use of spatial information and educating the community, business and government of the importance and value of spatial information
- Developing future spatial information strategies
- Promoting and developing the concept of spatially enabling the State Plan
The Council will be set up to drive the spatial information strategic agenda at the whole of government and industry levels. There will be a maximum of 15 members who will be drawn from key sectors that reflect the breadth and diversity of the NSW spatial information industry. The Members of the Council will be appointed by the Minister for Lands.
